We want you to feel welcome
Visiting a new church for the first time can be a little scary. We've all been there, and so we consider it OUR job to make you feel as welcome as possible. Below we answer some common questions so you know what to expect.
What does "All are welcome, no exceptions" mean?
Exactly that. We are an open and affirming community of faith. This is not a slogan to get you in the door, it is a promise from every member of our church. Too many of us have experienced churches that were unwelcoming, unfriendly, or told us there was something wrong with us. We believe that all people are created in the image of God as beloved children of God and are called to participate in God's redemptive plan for the world.
What do Baptists believe?
Every Baptist Church is different. At Commonwealth Baptist Church, we strive to love God and other people with every fiber of our being. Learn more about who we are and what we believe.
What should I expect on my first visit?
Worship is from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Sunday mornings. There is a full parking lot in the rear of the church off of E. Chapman Street, and free street parking nearby. The sanctuary is upstairs. Greeters will welcome you, and you can sit anywhere you like. We invite you to join us downstairs after service for snacks and fellowship!
Do I need to get dressed up?
Nope! What's important is that you feel comfortable joining in praise and worship, not what you're wearing. Some of us wear suits and dresses, others wear shorts and flip-flops. It's up to you!
Do I have to give money?
No. An offering plate will be passed during service, but you should feel no obligation to give unless you wish to. It's far more important to us that you feel welcome.
What about the kids?
No matter what your family looks like, you are welcome at CBC. We provide safe, professional, and caring nursery care for ages birth to five. Older children are invited to join and participate in our worship service. Learn more about children in worship and our youth program.
What is worship like? What if I don't know what to do?
First of all, don't worry: Our worship service is very relaxed and informal. Ushers will hand out a program that clearly explains everything you need to know. We have Bibles and hymnals in every pew. Click here to learn more about our worship style.
How do I get more involved?
Every program contains an "Uncommon Connections" card you can fill out to share your contact information (we won't sell or share it!) and any questions or comments you might have. Just drop in the offering plate or give it to an usher and we'll be in touch.
