MARTY ANDERSON

Pastor

Pastor Marty Anderson came to Commonwealth from University Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland, where he served as Associate Pastor for College Ministries for seven years. At UBC, he organized and taught, counseled and led a weekly informal service for 80-100 college students that included music, testimonies, Scripture readings, and a message. In addition, he led student mission trips to Costa Rica, Mississippi’s Gulf Coast, and Atlanta. At Commonwealth, he has drawn on his rich college experience as a Centrifuge camp worship leader by helping lead our youth group on their summer trip to Passport Camp in Wingate, NC.

Born in Saltillo, Mississippi, Marty holds a degree in Educational Psychology from Mississippi State University and his MDiv from the McAfee School of Theology. In addition to spending time with his family, Marty enjoys playing guitar (sometimes even in our services!) and watching college football, particularly his alum team, Mississippi State.

CHERI SPIEGEL

Tech Coordinator

Cheri likes to keep busy! She is a Professor of English at Northern Virginia Community College’s Annandale Campus and co-founder of This Most Unbelievable Life, LLC and co-host of a podcast by the same name. Her work at CBC helps her synthesize a life-long love for music, technology, and graphic design. At CBC you can often find Cheri popping in and out of the “tech closet,” supporting the helping to make hybrid worship possible!

She enjoys leading book studies, writing calls to worship, and making space for folks to gather for discussion and refreshment (she is the self-appointed chair of the unofficial Bourbon Ministry, after all!). She’s married to Eric (of Church Council fame) and they have two adorable cats named Shanks and Roby.
