REV. MARTY ANDERSON

Pastor | Email Marty

Pastor Marty Anderson came to Commonwealth from University Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland, where he served as Associate Pastor for College Ministries for seven years. At UBC, he organized and taught, counseled and led a weekly informal service for 80-100 college students that included music, testimonies, Scripture readings, and a message. In addition, he led student mission trips to Costa Rica, Mississippi’s Gulf Coast, and Atlanta. At Commonwealth, he has drawn on his rich college experience as a Centrifuge camp worship leader by helping lead our youth group on their summer trip to Passport Camp in Wingate, NC.

 

Born in Saltillo, Mississippi, Marty holds a degree in Educational Psychology from Mississippi State University and his MDiv from the McAfee School of Theology. In addition to spending time with his family, Marty enjoys playing guitar (sometimes even in our services!) and watching college football, particularly his alum team, Mississippi State.

REV. ROBIN ANDERSON

Pastor | Email Robin

Pastor Robin Anderson has been serving as Co-Pastor of Commonwealth since 2012.

​

Before coming to CBC, Pastor Robin served at University Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland and FBC Decatur, Georgia. She earned her MDiv at Mercer University's McAfee School of Theology. Before attending seminary, Robin earned her BFA in Theater Performance from Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri.

Pastor Robin served on the leadership team Baptist Women in Ministry and the Alumni Board for McAfee School of Theology. She has sermons featured in The Theological Review and in This is What a Preacher Looks Like: Sermons by Baptist Women in Ministry.

Robin and Marty have three children. She enjoys writing, hiking, and taking an occasional tap dance class.

BETH TRENT

Church Administrator | Email Beth

Beth currently lives in Alexandria. She delights in exploring new activities, and has taken classes in archery, belly dancing, Couch to 5K, drawing, native plant identification, and swing dancing. In her free time, Beth enjoys creative pursuits, puzzles, reading, running, and spending time with good friends.

Beth grew up in Maryland as the 7th of 10 children, and moved to Northern Virginia as a young adult. She returned to college when both of her children were in middle school, completing her Bachelor’s in Accounting with a minor in Business Administration from UMUC. Shortly after earning her degree, she began using her skills and education in the position of office administrator at Commonwealth Baptist.

REV. ALYSSA ALDAPE

Pastor for Spiritual Formation | Email Alyssa

Rev. Alyssa Aldape has over a decade of ministry experience, most of which has, in some capacity, involved working with youth and young adults. While she’s from Texas, Alyssa spent her teenage years in Pune, Maharashtra, India where her parents served as missionaries. Alyssa came back to the US for college. After obtaining a BA in History from Samford University, she went on to earn her MDiv from Mercer University’s McAfee School of Theology. 

 

Alyssa currently serves as a Field Organizer for National Latina Institute for Reproductive Justice, and she’s also been a contributing writer for Good Faith Media. She serves on the Board of Directors for the BJC, one of our ministry partners, which advocates for religious liberty for all.

 

In her free time, Alyssa enjoys hiking with her husband Nick, playing guitar, and putting her New York Times Cooking subscription to good use. She’s also a big fan of the show Parks and Rec!

RYAN WALKER

Worship Leader | Email Ryan

Ryan Walker has over two decades of professional musical experience. In addition to being the primary singer/songwriter in the DC-area band The Beanstalk Library, he has played guitar, bass, and keyboard with various bands and artists. He served as the contemporary worship leader at Columbia Baptist Church in Falls Church, VA, from 2003-2010 and brings his musicianship to services at a variety of churches on a freelance basis. He also teaches private piano, guitar, bass and ukulele lessons. Ryan enjoys incorporating both sacred and spiritually thoughtful secular music into worship.

COURTNEY ROBINSON

Director of Abracadabra Childcare Center | Email Courtney

Courtney Robinson, a proud native of Savannah, Georgia, graduated with a Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education from Ashford University. From a professional standpoint, Courtney’s childcare career spans nearly two decades. She was a long-time employee of the YMCA of coastal Ga, where she served in various roles.  Courtney feels blessed to be a part of this amazing team. She says,” It has been an absolute pleasure to serve the Abra community and I look forward to doing so for many years to come”. Courtney lives in southern Maryland with her husband and three children.
